How to Find B2B Leads on Reddit: Queries, Scoring and Outreach
Copy-paste Reddit search queries, a five-question rule for deciding which posts are worth your time, and what to say once you find a buyer.
To find B2B leads on Reddit, search for posts where someone describes a problem you solve or asks which tool to buy, check that the author fits your customer profile, then reply with a useful answer in the thread or contact them where they do business. The work is in three parts: queries that surface buying posts, a quick rule for scoring them, and outreach that does not break Reddit's rules.
Why Reddit works for B2B prospecting
People describe their problems on Reddit more plainly than anywhere else. A head of sales will not post "our outbound is failing" on LinkedIn under their own name, but they will ask r/sales what to do about it. That candour is the whole value: the post tells you the problem, the tools already tried, the budget, and how urgent it is.
Three kinds of posts are worth your time:
- Recommendation requests. "What do you use for X?" The author is choosing now.
- Switching posts. "We're leaving [tool], what else is there?" The budget already exists.
- Problem posts. "Our reply rates dropped, what are we doing wrong?" Earlier in the decision, but open to a new approach.
Everything else (news, memes, career questions, vendors promoting themselves) is noise for this purpose.
How do you find B2B leads on Reddit, step by step?
1. Pick five to ten subreddits where your buyers ask for help
Choose communities by who posts there, not by size. A subreddit with 20,000 members who all do the job you sell to beats a general business community with two million. Start with role communities (r/sales, r/marketing, r/startups, r/SaaS), then add the communities of tools your customers already use, because people ask for alternatives there.
Read the rules in each sidebar before doing anything else. Some communities ban all vendor participation, some allow it with disclosure, and moderators enforce their own rules.
2. Search with Reddit's own operators
Reddit search is better than its reputation if you use field filters. According to Reddit's search documentation, you can restrict a search with subreddit:, title:, selftext: (the body of the post) and author:, combine terms with AND, OR and NOT in capitals, and group them with parentheses.
Copy these and replace the bracketed parts:
subreddit:sales title:("what do you use" OR "recommend" OR "alternative")
subreddit:SaaS selftext:("looking for a tool" OR "any recommendations") [your category]
title:("alternative to" OR "switching from" OR "moving off") [competitor]
selftext:("frustrated with" OR "fed up with" OR "cancelled") [competitor]
subreddit:startups ("how do you" OR "how are you") [the job your product does]
Sort the results by New. A buying post is useful for a few days; a thread from last year is research, not a lead.
For older threads and comment text, use Google with site:reddit.com "[competitor]" "alternative" and set the date range under Tools to the past month.
3. Score each post before you spend time on it
Most matches are not leads. Ask five questions and count the yes answers:
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Was it posted in the last 7 days? | Decisions close quickly once someone asks publicly. |
| Is the author asking, not answering? | Commenters are often other vendors. |
| Do they describe a company, team or budget? | Separates buyers from students and hobbyists. |
| Is the problem one you solve well? | A near miss wastes both sides' time. |
| Can you tell who they are or where they work? | Without it you can only reply in the thread. |
Four or five: act today. Three: reply in the thread if you have something useful to add. Two or fewer: move on.
4. Check the person, not only the post
Open the author's profile and read their recent posts and comments. You are looking for role, company size and industry. Many users mention their company, link a site, or use the same handle on LinkedIn or X. If you cannot work out who they are, treat the post as a chance to be helpful in public and nothing more.
5. Respond in the right place
You have two honest options.
Answer in the thread. Write the answer you would give a friend: what to check, what worked, what did not. If your product is relevant, say that you work on it and mention it once. A reply that reads as an advert gets removed and follows your account around.
Contact them where they do business. If the author is identifiable, a short message on LinkedIn or by email about the problem they described is more welcome than a Reddit DM from a stranger. Lead with the problem. You do not need to mention that you saw the post unless they would be glad you did.
What Reddit allows and what gets you banned
Reddit does not prohibit self-promotion, but its spam policy defines spam as repeated or unsolicited actions that negatively affect users or communities, and it names mass-posting repetitive content and using bots or generative AI tools to spread spam as violations. It also asks accounts that mainly link to their own business to be thoughtful about how often they post, and it leaves stricter rules to each community's moderators.
In practice:
- Do not paste the same reply into several threads.
- Do not send unsolicited DMs to everyone who commented on a topic.
- Do not use an account whose entire history is links to your site.
- Do disclose that you work on a product when you mention it.
- Do participate in threads where you have nothing to sell.
Monitoring Reddit for posts is reading public pages. Automated posting and mass messaging are where accounts get banned, so keep a person in the loop for anything that writes to Reddit.
How to run this every week without living on Reddit
Done by hand, the routine is about 30 minutes, three times a week: run your saved searches sorted by New, score what comes up, respond to the fours and fives.
The manual routine fails in one way: timing. A recommendation thread gets its useful answers in the first day, and a search run on Friday misses what was posted on Tuesday. That is the case for monitoring. A tool watches your keywords continuously and tells you when a matching post appears, so you answer while the author is still reading replies.
The Reddit side of this stays manual: Intentsly does not monitor Reddit, but it covers the LinkedIn side of the same signals, people posting about the problem you solve or engaging with competitor and industry-leader posts, through its LinkedIn signals.
Where a tool is the wrong choice: if you sell to a niche that posts a few times a month, saved searches and a calendar reminder are enough.
What to do next
Save the five queries above with your own category and competitors, run them sorted by New, and score the first twenty results. If fewer than three score four or higher, your buyers are probably in different subreddits; change the communities before you change the queries. For the signals worth chasing on LinkedIn and X as well, the Buying Signal Playbook is free, and our lesson on what intent data is explains where Reddit posts sit among the other signal types.
FAQ
Is it legal to use Reddit for lead generation?
Reading public posts and replying to them is ordinary use of the site. Problems start with automated posting, mass direct messages and scraping at scale, which can breach Reddit's terms and each community's rules. If you store personal details about people you find, your local privacy law applies to that data as it would to any other prospect list.
Should I send Reddit DMs to prospects?
Rarely. An unsolicited DM from a vendor is what most users report as spam, and repeated reports can get an account suspended. Reply publicly when you can add something useful, and move to LinkedIn or email when the person is identifiable and the message is about their problem.
Which subreddits are best for B2B leads?
The ones where your buyers ask for help with the job your product does. Role communities such as r/sales, r/marketing, r/startups and r/SaaS are a starting point, and the communities for tools your customers already use are often better because people ask for alternatives there.
How many leads can I expect from Reddit?
It depends on how often your category is discussed, and anyone quoting a fixed number is guessing. Run the queries for two weeks and count the posts that score four or five. That count is your real ceiling, and it tells you whether Reddit deserves a regular slot in your week.
